Today, the revitalised harbour accommodates fishing vessels, commercial boats, and leisure craft, with the marina uniquely positioned in the heart of the town, providing convenient access to local shops and services.

Whitehaven Marina, which opened in 1998, was managed by the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners until 2009. Recognising the need for further development, management transferred to Marina Projects in April 2009. The marina is now operated by Marina Projects, marine leisure consultants based on the south coast, who are committed to maintaining high standards. Marina Manager Charlotte Dawson leads a dedicated team who take pride in offering a warm welcome and delivering excellent customer service.

Marina Projects provides a broad range of services across marina design, waterfront development, and operations, working with private clients, commercial organisations, and public-sector bodies including Developers and Local Authorities.

Whitehaven Marina History

Whitehaven Harbour is more than a port—it’s a gateway to over 400 years of maritime trade. Originally a 17th-century fishing village, it became a key UK trading hub, exporting coal, goods, and raw materials globally. Its deep waters, strong infrastructure, and shipbuilding legacy have made it a centre of commerce.

Today, the harbour merges history with modern ambition. Strategic investments and new facilities have transformed it into a vibrant hub for business, tourism, and culture, while preserving its authentic maritime character.
