Whitehaven Marina at Seawork

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Whitehaven Marina is proud to announce its participation at Seawork International 2014 from 10th to 12th June at ABP Port of Southampton alongside Marina Projects and Endeavour Quay on stand SB13.  The commercial marine exhibition provides the perfect opportunity to showcase the wide range of services and facilities ideally suited for the commercial market that are provided by the operational businesses and backed by the marine leisure specialism provided by Marina Projects Ltd.

Whitehaven Marina, located on the North West coast of England, is ideally situated and equipped for both commercial and wind farm service vessels long and short term.  Unrivalled protection for vessels working around the North West Coast of England, this “safe haven” is perfect for vessels servicing wind farms in the Solway Firth and further afield.  Accessible four hours either side of high water, the inner harbour is protected by a modern, 30 x 13 metre sector lock, manned 24 hours a day.  Whitehaven is also within easy reach of the Port of Workington and Barrow-in-Furness.

Mark Bowden, Marina Projects’ Operations Director commented, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to exhibit at Seawork this year.  We value our commercial clients at each of the businesses within the group and this provides the prime opportunity to showcase what we can offer to the wider market.”

Members of the Marina Projects’ team will be on hand to meet with interested parties and discuss opportunities on stand SB13.  For further information visit www.marinaprojects.com, www.endeavourquay.co.uk or www.whitehavenmarina.co.uk.

Whitehaven at All Wales

Monday, July 29th, 2013

Simone Morgan and Tony Taylor made the trip last week to Conwy in North Wales to represent Whitehaven Marina at the All Wales Boat Show.

The show is a new concept based on two sites – Conwy and Deganwy – and hopes to take on where the South and North Wales Boat Shows left off.

The Whitehaven Marina stand at All Wales

Whitehaven were based in the marquee alongside Quay Marinas who operate Conwy and Deganwy as well as a representative from Yacht Haven Marinas.  It was interesting to talk to the people visiting the site about cruising to Whitehaven and what the marina has to offer and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors from North Wales in the near future!

Visitors to the stand were able to claim a free visitor night at the marina and also enter in for the chance to win a year’s free berth!

The show offer for visitors

We are pleased to have taken part in the show and promote the marina to boat owners further afield.

Super 2013 Whitehaven Festival

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

Despite the weather, we had a very successful Whitehaven Festival Weekend.  With nearly fifty visiting boats including one that had come from Hamble in Hampshire!  The festival witnessed a record number of visitors.

Even with the wind and rain against them, the marina welcomed over 40 visiting yachts including an Oyster 53 that had sailed from the south coast especially for the festival.  The marina also played host to four tall ships including the 45m Pelican of London, and two Archer Class Naval vessels.

Although the weather meant it wasn’t possible for the Red Arrow display team to perform, visitors were able to watch superb firework displays on Friday and Saturday night.  Whitehaven Marina also held a welcome drinks reception for the visiting crews on Friday evening.  The reception was well attended and the weather remained dry, sunny and still long enough for everyone to enjoy a drink or two and a hot dog.

Both visiting and resident boats entered into the festival spirit dressing their boats for the occasion with flags and bunting with a prize for Best Dressed Boat awarded to ‘Sealore’ owned by Mr & Mrs McAdam.  The Whitehaven Marina team worked very hard throughout the event as well as in the lead up to it to ensure it was a great success for visitors by land and sea.

On The Water Weekend Success

Monday, April 29th, 2013

Whitehaven Marina enjoyed the BMF’s On The Water Weekend on the 27th April.

Nichol End Marine, a local chandlery and sailing school, provided a number of kayaks and sailing dinghies as well as a chandlery stall and splicing service.

Sadly the slightly cold and windy Saturday meant visitors weren’t too keen to get as close to the water in a kayak as they may have been!

Several berth holders also took part in the “Boat Jumble” selling their unwanted boating bits.

The Whitehaven Marina team kept visitors topped up with warm cups of tea and biscuits and gave away the On The Water goodies including frisbees and other bits!

The local RNLI team were also offering free safety advice and lifejacket checks to boat owners.

WS&BA Raise £400 For RNLI

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

The Commodore and members of the Whitehaven Sailing and Boating Association presented a cheque for £400 to the Coxswain and crew of the RNLI Workington Lifeboat, Sir John Fisher, on Sunday 7th April.

RNLI Coxswain, John Stobbart, explained to the sailors from the WS&BA about the procedures and equipment typically employed by the volunteer lifeboat crew when coming to the aid of a stricken yacht.  The members of the Club were shown around the lifeboat and taken on a trip along the coast before returning to Whitehaven Marina.

Whitehaven Sailing and Boating Association Secretary, Margaret Trotter said: ‘We’re all very glad that the charity’s lifeboats are there for us and over the years various members have needed their assistance. We organise a fund raising supper and dance at the end of the season and we also collect race fees which go towards donations to the Workington and St Bees lifeboats.’
