Whitehaven Social Events in 2015

marine boat jumble in Whitehaven Marina

Our Boat Jumble is growing year on year

We have had some great fun events during 2015; the boat jumble in its second year was a success and we will be running that again in 2016. The Film Festival in June hit the national press when one of the Red Devils became tangled in his parachute and was rescued by our very own Allan Finley.

We finished off the season with a night with Josh Hall at the Beacon. His global sailing adventures were fascinating to see and listen to and I think inspired us all. We are now on the lookout for next year’s guest speaker!! Check out our events pages for 2016

Lock Closure

Sea Lock gates open to the Irish Sea

Investing in our annual sea lock maintenance program

We have now confirmed the dates for our annual lock closure. This will be between 22nd February and 7th March 2016 inclusive. During this time Tony and his team will drain the lock and undertake a long list of maintenance tasks. Following this work, the lock will be as good as new, ensuring that the wild and windy Irish Sea doesn’t flood the town of Whitehaven but also protects all the boats behind those amazing 265 year old inner and outer breakwaters!

Chandlery Items now on offer!

We now stock an increased selection of chandlery in the Marina Office. Come and take a look at what we have! Following a questionnaire to our berth holders, we have now filled the shelves with the most popular items requested, all at reasonable prices. If you are unable to collect what you need form the marina office, please call us and we will deliver to your boat.

Great winter boat yard offer!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2015

If you don’t have the time this winter to antifoul and polish the topsides of your boat, just contact us and we will do it all for you!

We will tow your boat to the hoist dock, lift her out and wash off any weed from the bottom. We will then allow the hull to dry out for a couple of days, polish the top sides and antifoul the hull all in time for your next visit. Sounds easy work!! Please contact Tony for a quote and further details tonytaylor@whitehavenmarina.co.uk

One Haven to another

Friday, October 9th, 2015
Sadly, due to work commitments, boat owners Gordon and Sue Dobson are having to relocate their boat ‘Aquaholic’ from Whitehaven Marina to the South of England.
So if you were them what would you do? Look for another haven like Whitehaven naturally.
Gordon and Sue have enjoyed their time in Whitehaven so much we thought we would share their testimonial and take the opportunity to wish them all the best in their new boat location, Newhaven!! Of course!!
Sue wrote “ Gordon and I will miss Whitehaven Marina. I have experience of many marinas and Whitehaven is not only beautiful but also one of the best serviced I have come across. Great facilities with excellent staff. Special thanks to Jean who keeps the shower facilities so spotless at the weekends and is always happy to help and make you feel welcome. The hard work of the staff you have behind the scenes should not only be acknowledged but shouted from the roof tops as it makes such a difference to the service you provide. Without them nothing would work properly if at all and they are worth their weight in gold 🙂

Thanks to all the staff who have made our last few weeks so enjoyable.”

Praise indeed and pictured here are a couple of sunset photographs courtesy of the Gordon and Sue too.

Whitehaven Marina rips up boat lift and launch invoice

Thursday, October 1st, 2015
Whitehaven Marina is rewarding forward planning customers. The Marina is offering a special reward to annual customers who book during October to lift their boat before the end of January 2016.
These forward planners will be entered into a draw and at the end of January one lucky winner will have their lift and launch invoice ripped up (or reimbursed if its already paid).
Whitehaven already rewards annual berth holders with a month’s fee storage ashore. So for those thinking about coming ashore this winter anyway it would seem a smart move to book early and potentially benefit from a cost cutting of what can sometimes be a sizeable maintenance cost.
Marina Manager Simone Morgan, says “We like to encourage customers to book their lifts early. Often the weather can be bad in January and February which can hamper lifting operations and then there is a rush on the boatyard operations in March.
If customers are smart and get their major work done early it means that if the weather is good early next season they could already be afloat and able to take advantage of it, which is a feel good factor and a great way to start the season.”
Whitehaven Boatyard is one of the most modern facilities on the North West Coast of England. With storage for boats of up to 20m LOA and a 45 tonne boat hoist.
For more information or to book boat owners should call 01946 692435 or email tonytaylor@whitehavenmarina.co.uk

Visitors to the Marina

Saturday, August 15th, 2015

We are delighted to announce that we have had a record number of visitors to the marina so far. It’s been superb to welcome so many new faces and watch everyone enjoying their boats. Plus some unusual boats too…

You may notice a commercial vessel ‘Penrhyn Bay’ moving in and out of the marina each day. In case you are wondering this vessel takes water to the huge rig offshore which is drilling for coal. The project is run by West Cumbria Mining and if you would like to find out more they are holding open days at Haig Mining Museum – ask at the marina office for details or click here

In August we had a visit from the catamaran ‘Wind Quest’ which is the largest and probably most expensive leisure visitor we have ever had at Whitehaven. At 25m LOA with 11.9m beam she just managed to squeeze through our sealock but looked fabulous berthed on the Lime Tongue! www.charterbrochure.com/windquest
